Following your Laser Hair Removal (LHR) treatment, it is normal to experience some redness and swelling in the treated area. This typically subsides within a few hours.
- If discomfort occurs, a cool compress may be applied to the affected area. You may also take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to alleviate any discomfort.
- For any itching or irritation, an oral antihistamine or topical hydrocortisone cream can be used. Please refrain from scratching the treated area to prevent further irritation.
- Sun Protection: To protect the treated areas, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher before, during, and after your treatment series. This is essential to prevent skin damage and enhance results.
- Dark Spots or "Blackheads": If you notice dark spots beneath the skin resembling blackheads, these are terminal hairs that need to be exfoliated. To address this, soak in a warm (not hot) bath to open pores, then gently exfoliate with a soft cloth or scrubbing gloves. You may also use a lotion containing salicylic or glycolic acid to aid in exfoliation.
- Blistering or Fluid Discharge: In some cases, treated sites may blister, bleed, or ooze fluid. While this is typically mild to moderate, it should resolve within a week. Clean the area twice daily with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water, followed by Bacitracin ointment for healing. Avoid picking, rubbing, or scratching the treated areas, as this may lead to scarring or infection. If you experience persistent pain or blistering, please contact us immediately.
- Hair Growth and Removal: New hair growth is generally visible within three weeks. During the treatment series, avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, bleaching, or using chemical depilatories for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment or at any point during the series. Shaving or using clippers is the only recommended method for hair removal. Wait until any redness has subsided before shaving again.
- Hair Shedding: You will notice hair shedding most prominently 10-14 days after the treatment.
- Treatment Schedule: Treatment intervals are typically every 4-6 weeks for areas above the neck, and every 6-8 weeks for areas below the neck. Regular treatments are key to achieving the best long-term results.
By following these instructions, you will help ensure optimal recovery and maximize the benefits of your laser hair removal treatment.
