Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a safe, effective, and long-lasting solution for unwanted hair. This advanced treatment uses focused light technology to target and destroy hair follicles, leading to smooth, hair-free skin.
Laser hair removal uses concentrated pulses of light to target the pigment (melanin) within actively growing hair follicles. The melanin absorbs the laser energy, which is converted into heat. This heat damages the structures within the follicle responsible for producing new hair while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin. Hair grows in cycles, and the laser is most effective during the **anagen (active growth) phase**, when the hair is attached to the follicle and contains the highest concentration of pigment. Because only a percentage of hairs are in the active growth phase at any given time, multiple treatment sessions are necessary to effectively target all follicles as they enter this stage. Most patients require **a series of approximately 6 treatments** to achieve an **80–90% reduction in hair growth**, although some individuals—particularly those with hormonal conditions, certain medical conditions, or specific genetic factors—may require **up to 12 treatments** to achieve their desired results. After completing the initial treatment series, periodic maintenance treatments may be recommended to address new hair growth that develops over time due to hormonal or age-related changes. Laser hair removal provides a significant, long-term reduction in unwanted hair, resulting in finer, slower-growing hair and smoother skin. While no treatment can guarantee the permanent removal of every hair, laser hair removal offers one of the most effective long-term solutions for reducing unwanted hair growth.
Laser hair removal is safe and effective for all skin types when the appropriate laser technology is used. At Bare Bliss Laser & Electrolysis, we utilize both Alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm) lasers, allowing us to safely and effectively treat a wide range of skin tones while customizing each treatment to your individual needs. Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) within the hair follicle. Because of this, the treatment is most effective on dark brown to black hair. Hair that contains little to no pigment—including white, gray, blonde, red, or very light-colored hair—does not respond well to laser hair removal and is generally not considered treatable with this technology. Electrolysis is the recommended permanent hair removal option for these hair colors. During your consultation, one of our providers will evaluate your skin type, hair color, hair thickness, medical history, and treatment goals to determine whether laser hair removal is the right option for you and develop a personalized treatment plan. **Please Note:** Laser hair removal cannot be performed over tattoos, as the laser targets pigment and may cause burns, blistering, or damage to the tattoo. Tattooed areas will be avoided during treatment.
Laser hair removal is generally well-tolerated, but the sensation can vary depending on the area being treated and individual pain tolerance. Many describe the feeling as a mild snapping or tingling sensation. Topical numbing creams can be applied before the treatment to minimize any discomfort. Most clients find that the treatment is quick and manageable, with little to no downtime afterward.
Laser hair removal is generally safe, but like any procedure, it can have side effects. Here are some to be aware of:
Mild redness around the treated area is common and usually resolves within a few hours but may last up to 24-72 hours.
Small, raised bumps surrounding the treated hairs are a normal response and often indicate the follicles have responded to treatment. This typically subsides within 24–72 hours.
The treated area may feel similar to a mild sunburn for several hours after treatment.
Mild itching may occur as the skin heals.
Some patients experience mild dryness or peeling during the healing process.
The treated area may be more sensitive to heat, friction, or certain skincare products for a few days.
Treated hairs do not fall out immediately. They gradually shed over the next 1–3 weeks, which is a normal part of the treatment process and should not be mistaken for new hair growth.
