Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. This time-tested treatment uses a small, precise electrical current to permanently destroy the hair follicle, preventing future hair growth. Suitable for all skin types and hair colors, electrolysis offers an effective, lasting solution for unwanted hair on various areas of the body, from the face to larger areas like the legs and bikini line.
During an electrolysis session, a fine probe is gently inserted into the hair follicle. A small electrical current is then delivered to the follicle, which destroys the germinating cells responsible for hair growth. This process is repeated for each individual hair. Since hair grows in different cycles, multiple sessions are required to treat all follicles during their active growth phase, leading to permanent hair removal.
Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA). Trained professionals, known as "electrologists," use one of three techniques to effectively remove unwanted hair:
The oldest method, involving the application of direct current to the hair follicle. This current converts the body's salt and water into a chemical compound that destroys the dermal papilla, a structure essential for hair growth. This chemical reaction occurs only in the follicle, leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.
This method uses high-frequency current to generate heat, which cauterizes and destroys the dermal papilla. A single sterile probe is used during this process, with two variations: Flash Thermolysis, which applies a quick pulse of current, and Manual Thermolysis, which uses a lower-intensity current for a few seconds.
Combining both galvanic electrolysis and thermolysis, this technique uses a single probe. The combination of heat from thermolysis enhances the chemical action of galvanic electrolysis, reducing the overall treatment time.
Electrolysis is a versatile and effective treatment for all skin types, hair colors, and genders. Whether you have fine, coarse, light, or dark hair, electrolysis can successfully target and remove unwanted hair. It's also the ideal choice for sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, eyebrows, and bikini line. During a consultation, our team will assess your needs and design a customized treatment plan for you.
Electrolysis is generally well-tolerated, though some individuals may experience slight discomfort during the procedure. The sensation is often described as a mild stinging or tingling feeling. A topical numbing cream can be applied to sensitive areas to reduce discomfort, and most clients find the procedure manageable. There may be some redness or swelling after treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours.
